Jack of the Wood/Green Man Ales, Asheville, NC

Jack Of The Wood bills itself as a Public House, and is a Celtic-style pub.  The menu sounds like British pub food, but with a twist.  We did not try any of their food on our visit today, just beer. We tried their Green Man Porter and the ESB.  The latter was especially good, and while the porter was good, it was not as good as the Ninja Porter at Asheville Brewing.

The atmosphere here is definitely Irish pub.  The service was excellent for our mid-afternoon visit.  Jack of the Wood also has a full bar for those who don’t care for beer, and they also have a nice selection of ‘guest’ beers in addition to the Green Man Ales.  There is a stage in one corner for the featured musical groups.  A small cover charge applies when those groups are playing.

Jack Of The Wood is located at 95 Patton Avenue in Asheville.  You can find more information about them on their website at http://www.jackofthewood.com/

It would be fun to come back some time when we could try their food.

June 27, 2012:  we returned to have lunch and had an enjoyable experience.  The atmosphere was pleasant and we had a very upbeat server.  Our salads were quite nice, as was the beer.  This time we were lucky enough to find that they had souvenir pint glasses available.
